So today we will talk about hosting and domain. Its pretty confusing at first but once you get to know what these things are all is straight forward. When ever we want to create a website we come in contact with hosting providers and there we deal with these things.So lets discuss
So what is Domain ?
google.com, yahoo.com, easybay.org these all are domain names , Mainly a name of your website that you need to register with hosting provider company.Now it will cost you to have a domain. Charges are yearly bases depending on the company you are registering your domain with.
How Domain Names Actually Work?
We will take a look at what happens when you enter it in your browser. When you enter a domain name in your web browser, it sends request to global network of servers this makes a domain name system(DNS). These servers look for name servers associated with domain and forward request to servers
For example, there is a website “ABC.COM”, then its name server information will be like this:
These name servers are managed by hosting company.Your hosting company will forward your request to the computer where your website is stored.This computer is called a web server. It has a software installed (Apache is one of popular web server software). Web server fetches the web page and information associated with it.
Finally, it then sends this data back to the browser. And you see website on browser.

It is the actual computer where your website’s files are stored.These computers are called servers , And hosting companies provide hosting services. So you can buy domain and hosting from same company or seperate companies. If Buying from seperate companies then you need to edit your domain name settings and enter the Name Server information provided by your hosting company. Name Server information tells where to send request which domain name.
